Today is turning out to be a good day. I got 12 hours of sleep last night, and woke up to a windy, cool fall day. My favorite. I had to get a cavity filled this morning, which I was dreading, but it turned out to be the best filling I've ever gotten. I was in-and-out of the office in 10 minutes, and they didn't even have to shoot me up with Novocain. The cavity was on the side of my tooth, and I barely felt the drill. Seriously, talk about your quick fix. And I hadn't even been to the dentist in 5 years and all I had was this one little cavity. Flouride is the best!
I also found out this morning that there is a painkiller that I can take at 6-months pregnant. Apparently Tylenol (acetominephine) is the only thing you're allowed to take. I thought you couldn't take anything. I've been putting up with back pain and headaches for way too long now. Yay for painkillers!! I just bought enough to keep me happily medicated for months.
Plus, my boss is going golfing again this afternoon, so I've got the next 5 hours to myself. I'll probably hit the library, the bank, maybe CostCo for some chicken and toilet paper. I love having my car back. The only thing that's bumming me out is that this 1998 Mazda Protege LX that I wanted has been sold. Oh well, it'll take awhile before we actually get the car that's waiting for us...somewhere out there...
Company parties during the workday really are the best. There's free food, free music, and you get paid to sit around and eat. My company really knows how to throw them, too! They're actually fun. Like the Summer Party with catered filet mignon and rock walls to climb and thousands of dollars worth of give-aways. We're talking serious cash, here, people! It's a beautiful day for it, too. Sunny sky, cool weather, beautiful gardens out back with a waterfall and everything. Who could ask for anything more? Oh, here's something...my boss doesn't come in until 2pm today. That means I get to sit here and blog and read Speaker for the Dead and surf the net. Sounds like Friday is shapin' up mighty fine. Now if only I had worn my comfy pants instead of these blasted non-maternity jeans. I'm not sure if I can get away with these any more. They have serious zipper issues. OK, maybe it's my horribly bloated tummy as well as the zipper that is causing problems, but there's a whole nother person in there...what can yo do?
As an update to the car situation--looks like we have to get a new one. The Mazda has several leaky cylinders, and apparently that's bad. It's going to cost more to get it fixed than the car is actually worth. Life's the pits sometimes. I'm talking stinky, sweaty, cheezy pits. How in heaven's name are we supposed to take on a car payment with a baby on the way and me stopping work for awhile?!? I AM the breadwinner whilst my husband is in school. It's going to be an interesting year. At least now we can get a reliable 4-door car, but I'd still rather have the Mazda working fine than have to get a new car.
Nothing is going to spoil my mood today, though. Yay company parties!!!
Christmas music in September, yay! Well, if it's already snowing here, shouldn't I be allowed to listen to Christmas music? I say yes. I've even got Duchess and Kater hooked on it, too. There's just something peaceful and happy about Christmas music that makes me smile. It's even good for curing depression due to
trials and tribulations concerning mean women who have no respect for their fellow men. Hang in there, kiddo.
So, even though it's 60 degrees outside, my boss is out there golfing. Way to be gung-ho. That means I practically get the afternoon off. I'll do the 30 minutes of actual work that I have to do, and then I can read my book or blog some more, or research mini-bowling shirts.
Why does it seem like some people really have it made all the time? I mean their parents give them brand new furniture. They let them borrow cars for years at a time. They take them to Peru for 2 weeks and pay for everything. They're constantly giving them monetary gifts or brand new computers. This is the couple who has the perfect house and cars that work great and full ride scholarships. Everyone knows somebody like that. Why do they seem to get all of the luck, while the rest of us are stuck with tiny houses and broken cars and huge tuition payments? Who are they to be so special? Wouldn't it be nice to spread that luck around to the rest of us every once in awhile? The answer is yes. Commence spreading.
Oh well, at least I have my Christmas music.
As this is my first blog ever, I'm a little nervous. Do I include things that I would hate my husband or friends and family to read should they ever find this? Not like they're running searches for me on the internet, but I might let it slip one day or something. Duchess says not to include things that are hurtful, so that's a good start.
It's rainy and sad looking outside today, although there is snow on the mountains. It's starting early this year. Just one more reason to get the car fixed before winter officially starts. There's nothing worse than a car that keeps breaking down. There's so much trust that goes into driving, especially a car that's almost as old as you are. It's almost a betrayal when the car stops running, and you can't get to your dentist appointment or to school or even to go buy (heaven forbid) groceries. You're hobbled, and then it starts raining. Now you're not going anywhere.
Now that there's a baby on the way, though, an unreliable car becomes dangerous...a hazard. What if I go into labor in the middle of the night and the car breaks down? What do I do when it's snowing and we go dead on the side of the road with the baby in the back seat? Or if he gets sick and has to be rushed to the hospital...it's a long bus ride and an even longer walk. And the car is a 2 door for heaven's sake. It's too bad you can't put the baby in the front seat anymore. Backseats only, even though we don't have airbags, I don't think. They won't even let you out of the hospital if you don't have a carseat in the correct place and securely fastened.
I need a nap.
At least the car was free...no car payments to be under...
Still, it would be nice if it magically fixed itself tonight. Where are the car elves when you need them?
